I apologize in advance if I post a lot of newbie questions, but I searched the posts here and didn't see an answer to this question; is there a community preference in the tengwar used? It seems like a lot of the "Learn Elvish in 10 minutes!" websites use consonantal Gondor mode, but I didn't know if there was a mode that was preferred here.
A preferred mode to write what? The choice of mode depends on the language your text is in. I suggest you check out Amanye Tenceli, the excellent website of +Måns Björkman
The book I have listed 3 modes (Beleriand, alphabetical Gondor, consonanatal Gondor), but I thought they could all be used for Classic Sindarin and were not tied to a specific language. Just shows how much I have to learn, I suppose. :-)
Well Tolkien himself was inconsistent in his usage, so it's hard to say there is a definitive standard; especially if the text you want to write is not bound to a specific region in Middle-earth or a specific era/language. I'd say as long as you use the chosen mode correctly you are fine.
