When writing in VQP, shall I use the term Common Eldarin or Primitive Elvish, and how shall I abbreviate them? I have so far, inconstistently, used C.E. and P.E.

I would use Common Eldarin (CE) unless you are in the mood to explore the Avari languages. All the Western Elvish languages are descended from CE, and CE is an abbreviation that Tolkien himself used fairly regularly.

I used Primitive Elvish in Eldamo, but I wanted a term that would be applicable to all iterations of Tolkien's languages, early, middle and late. I think CE is truer to Tolkien's own writings.

If for some reason you want to speak of the primordial language before the split between the Avari and the Eldar, I would use the term Common Quenderin (CQ), an abbreviation Tolkien also used in later writings (e.g. PE18:79). I would not use PQ (Primitive Quenderin), because Tolkien used the term Parmaquesta "Book Quenya" (PQ) for classical Quenya.
