Hantalë len yúyon, an hanequétiestë nin rato.
(For sake of clarity I'll continue in English.)
You both are right. We know pretty much, but that's not enough. Moreover, we lack enthusiasm and enthisasts. Even the Elfling list is dead now.
But my challenge was less ambitious. I merely wanted (oh no, *have been wanting :-) ) to discuss some new words that I may need (like "pear" or "hippo") while talking to a child, and some dubious grammar issues.
Ar náto, alassëa nányë i polilwë artaquetë ar hanya quen i exë.

Tamas Ferencz May 12, 2016 (13:06)

So we've had a Hangout with Isaac and came up with the following words so far:
*nuinerocco 'riverhorse, hippopotamus'
*orvinga or *orvinge 'pear' from Gnomish orfing, related to EQ orva 'apple'

*lassekas or *laxas 'cabbage' lit. 'leaf-head'

Александр Запрягаев May 12, 2016 (16:19)

+Tamas Ferencz They should be added to VQP definitely! I believe indeed there is not enough coordination between the word-coiners up to date. I've been thinking of making a "definite" extended vocabulary, starting with Helge's wordlist for the Bible translation, updated and checked, and listing everything we did for the basic lexicon, in order not to re-make something second and third time…

Ицхак Пензев May 12, 2016 (17:42)

Alex, you are right. There is even too little agreement about some basic attested vocabulary.
Besides, I agree that there is a need to collect all the suggestions of new words in one list (maybe, a simple spreadsheet) for reference.

Ицхак Пензев May 15, 2016 (12:14)

Ok. New day brings new word challenges. While "banana" may remain vanána, I still need "monkey", "pants (underware)", "to be careful / cautious" and "right now (like in I'll do it right now / in a moment)". The latter one is esp. important for making the naughty kid to wait. Btw, what do you think: is "to wait" hopa- (PE22:113) or hora- (PE22:116)? May we still use PPQ's larta-, too?

Tamas Ferencz May 15, 2016 (13:49)

+Ицхак Пензев
careful, cautious: there was a discussion about this here not too long ago. I still think the attested tiríte "watchful, vigilant" (PE22:155) is close enough.

Tamas Ferencz May 15, 2016 (14:03)

underpants: first, we need a word for pants/trousers/hose/breeches. Perhaps *telcovaine 'covering for leg' (cf. the etymology of hose); or, on the analogy of English drawers, *tucina(r/t) 'sg that is pulled on' (not sure if Q would pluralize or dualize garments with a pair of arms/legs as English does)

Ицхак Пензев May 15, 2016 (14:14)

As for "trousers", we discussed this word in the Nyatil two years ago. https://www.facebook.com/groups/quenyachat/permalink/678791995523344/?comment_id=683171885085355&comment_tracking=%7B%22tn%22%3A%22R3%22%7D The result was *telquaima. But *telquainë may work better.
But I don't think there's much connection with "underpants" (esp. if they are women's).

Tamas Ferencz May 15, 2016 (15:16)

+Ицхак Пензев
well, 'underpants' themselves come from pantaloon which is originally a garment covering the whole leg. But since they are short, we can call them simply 'shorts' sennat :)

Tamas Ferencz May 15, 2016 (15:21)

'right now': *pen lemie  'without tarry'
*úlemie

Tamas Ferencz May 15, 2016 (15:28)

*tihtasse 'in a blink'

Tamas Ferencz May 15, 2016 (16:00)

for 'monkey' I cannot think of any better suggestion than perhaps the adoption of Arabic maimun which seems to be behind the word 'monkey' in several languages

Ицхак Пензев May 15, 2016 (21:32)

Hantalë, a Tamas. Samin maurë saniéva. Noalyar ammirwë nar!

Ицхак Пензев May 16, 2016 (17:28)

What will you say, colleagues? Shall I keep on the discussion of "Rina talks Quenya" experiment here, or make a new separate thread?

Tamas Ferencz May 16, 2016 (17:51)

+Ицхак Пензев
I think you can keep it here; maybe you could edit the main post and add a hashtag so that it is easy to find later should the discussion get buried under newer posts (not a great danger here:)

Ицхак Пензев May 16, 2016 (18:57)

I've put a tag here, and I'll start a new major thread in Discussions. Tagged, too, of course.
