PSALMS CHAPTER 130 KJV
Psalms chapter 130 KJV (King James Version)

A secret guilty desire of mine: to translate a liturgy (or a mass) into Quenya in total and hear it performed.

Damien Bador Jun 14, 2018 (07:08)

By the way, Tamas, do you remember when you completed this translation? I've tried gathering all the Psalms that have ever been translated to Quenya for comparison purposes.

Indeed, I have started translating the entire Book of Psalms to Quenya. I've already completed the first 30 Psalms.

Tamas Ferencz Jun 14, 2018 (09:41)

+Damien Bador yes, 17 March 2008; here's a link to the translation on Aglardh (now defunct, but the posts are still there)

+Tamas Ferencz Thanks for your answer.

I also noticed you translated Psalm 30 on Elfling a long time ago, but it comes out with issues on the Yahoo Groups online versions: some special characters are replaced by unreadable glyphs. Would you be able to post it again here?

Even earlier, you also translated Psalm 7 there, and had long discussions with other Elfling members. As far as I can tell, you mentioned you'd post a final version incorporating all remarks, but I haven't been able to find it. It would be quite interesting to see it here. Even if you never undertook the revision, posting it would be useful, because it has the same kind of garbled characters as Psalm 30.

Damien Bador Sep 04, 2018 (12:43)

+Tamas Ferencz Regarding my questions on Ps. 30 and Ps. 7 (see just above), would you be able to post the latest versions of both these Psalms?

Tamas Ferencz Sep 04, 2018 (13:44)

+Damien Bador I will look through my hard drives and try to locate the texts

Tamas Ferencz Sep 04, 2018 (13:46)

Found them - both are from 2006 so I'd probably do them differently now, but here they come

Tamas Ferencz Sep 04, 2018 (13:47)

1: O Lord my God, in thee do I put my trust: save me from all them that persecute me, and deliver me:
A Héru, Erunya, antan estelinya lyen: áni eterúna ilquenello ye ni roita, ar áni etelehta:
2: Lest he tear my soul like a lion, rending it in pieces, while there is none to deliver.
nai úvas saccate feanya ve rá, terhátala, íre láquen ea ye etelehtuva.
3: O LORD my God, if I have done this; if there be iniquity in my hands;
A Héru Erunya, acárien cé sin; úcare himya cé mányanta;
4: If I have rewarded evil unto him that was at peace with me; (yea, I have delivered him that without cause is mine enemy:)
Nanantien cé úcare eryen i séresse asinye enge; etelehtienyes cé i ú *tyáreo ñottonya ná:
5: Let the enemy persecute my soul, and take it; yea, let him tread down my life upon the earth, and lay mine honour in the dust. Selah.
Na roituva i ñotto feanya ar mapuvaryes; yé, na tamuvarye cuilenya i cemenna ar caituvarye súlenya i astonna.
6: Arise, O LORD, in thine anger, lift up thyself because of the rage of mine enemies: and awake for me to the judgment that thou hast commanded.
Alye orta, a Héru, ormelyasse, á amorta ahanen ñottonyaron: ar á cuiva nin námielyanna ya acánielye.
7: So shall the congregation of the people compass thee about: for their sakes therefore return thou on high.
Na hostuva i hostale lieron *os elye: san á entule tárienna tien.
8: The LORD shall judge the people: judge me, O LORD, according to my righteousness, and according to mine integrity that is in me.
Héru namuva firi: áni name, a Héru, *terwenyanen and *minassenyanen.
9: Oh let the wickedness of the wicked come to an end; but establish the just: for the righteous God trieth the hearts and reins.

10: My defence is of God, which saveth the upright in heart.

11: God judgeth the righteous, and God is angry with the wicked every day.
Eru name i térar, ar Eru *ahea ulcainen ilaure.

12: If he turn not, he will whet his sword; he hath bent his bow, and made it ready.
Íre i ulca lá queruva, *laicatuva macilerya; ucúnie cúwerya ar nasties.

13: He hath also prepared for him the instruments of death; he ordaineth his arrows against the persecutors.

14: Behold, he travaileth with iniquity, and hath conceived mischief, and brought forth falsehood.

15: He made a pit, and digged it, and is fallen into the ditch which he made.

16: His mischief shall return upon his own head, and his violent dealing shall come down upon his own pate.
Úcarerya *nanqueruva caseryanna, ar narace careryar lantuvar telmaryanna.

17: I will praise the LORD according to his righteousness: and will sing praise to the name of the LORD most high.

Tamas Ferencz Sep 04, 2018 (13:48)

1: I will extol thee, O LORD; for thou hast lifted me up, and hast not made my foes to rejoice over me.
Hanuvan lye, o Héru; an amortielyen, ar lá lavielye cotumonyain alasta or inye.
2: O LORD my God, I cried unto thee, and thou hast healed me.
O Héru, hérunya, nainanenye lyenna, ar envinyatielyen.
3: O LORD, thou hast brought up my soul from the grave: thou hast kept me alive, that I should not go down to the pit.
O Héru, ambacólielyes feanya i noirello: ehépielyen cuina, sa lá lantanien minna i latta.
4: Sing unto the LORD, O ye saints of his, and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness.
Á lirel Hérun, o airiryar, ar á hantal íre enyalilye airesserya.
5: For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.
An ormerya termaruva er sinta lúme; cuile óreryasse caita: quíta nyenye lemyuva tere lóme, mal arinesse alasse tuluva.
6: And in my prosperity I said, I shall never be moved.
Ar almienyasse quenten, úvan perestaina ailume.
7: LORD, by thy favour thou hast made my mountain to stand strong: thou didst hide thy face, and I was troubled.
Héru, annalyanen antorielye orontinya: nurtanelye nívelya, ar engen *tarastaina.
8: I cried to thee, O LORD; and unto the LORD I made supplication.
Yallen lyenna, a Héru; Hérunna hyamnen.
9: What profit is there in my blood, when I go down to the pit? Shall the dust praise thee? shall it declare thy truth?
Ma camwe yórenyasse, íre lantuvan i lattanna? Pole i asto lye laita? Polis tana anwielya?
10: Hear, O LORD, and have mercy upon me: LORD, be thou my helper.
Álye lasta, a Héru, ar ánin anta Eruannalya: álye nauva runandonya.
11: Thou hast turned for me my mourning into dancing: thou hast put off my sackcloth, and girded me with gladness;
Ahyanelye nyérenya liltanna; lehtanelye nainecollanya ar vaitanelyen alassenen.
12: To the end that my glory may sing praise to thee, and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give thanks unto thee for ever.
Ar síve alcarinya lye laituva ar úva quilda. A Héru, Hérunya, hantuvanyel tennoio.

+Tamas Ferencz Thanks a lot for these updates. I notice quite a few differences with the original versions on Elfling.

Do you have the exact dates for these two compositions?

Tamas Ferencz Sep 05, 2018 (10:41)

+Damien Bador I can't be sure - the files are from June 2006, but that only means that's he last time I modified them. But it couldn't have been much earlier.

Damien Bador Sep 06, 2018 (11:27)

+Tamas Ferencz I just added my own version of Ps. 7.

Of course, as I use Parmaquesta, phonological differences will be found. Also, our knowledge of Quenya has significantly increased over the last 10 years, which generates some more differences. And I readily admit that some of my personal choices are open to debate.

And yet, it is interesting to see some common choices despite the independent translations.

Tamas Ferencz Sep 06, 2018 (11:42)

+Damien Bador indeed it is good to see our own choices "justified" in that way
