Some time ago, and I think it was in this community, I was asking about how to express 'against' in Quenya. I am unable to find the post now.
Anyway, in PE21:71 Tolkien is talking about old dissyllabic stems in Eldarin, and gives the 'adverbial' example anak 'straight forward'; according to the footnote Tolkien changed the gloss (in ink) from 'straight forward' to 'against, opposite'.
I suppose later this would become *anka?

I think a syncope is more likely, especially as Tolkien even mentions at the bottom of the same page this being frequent in this class of nouns.
