Sinar manten *þannë *cemorvar (sg. þanna, "mashed (potatoes)" < √THAG) ar *sissini (sg. sissin, "fried" < adapted from sisin QL:84) *ohti (amended from ohtë QL:69).

+Ицхак Пензев (what would be updated verb form of EQ sisi-?)

Ицхак Пензев Jan 11, 2018 (14:41)

+Tamas Ferencz Phonology is my weak point. That's why I always try to seek for a piece of advice from wiser scholars.
But if you ask, I'd expect QL sisi- turn into smth like √SIS with a real verb sista- according to the pattern we find in hlasta- and nusta- (PE22:103)

Tamas Ferencz Jan 11, 2018 (15:01)

+Ицхак Пензев thank you. In that case I personally would steer away from **sissin and derive a past participle from *sista- in a regular manner - that way we'd only produce one neologism.

Ицхак Пензев Jan 11, 2018 (16:53)

+Tamas Ferencz Do you suggest sistaina then? I don't see sissin or even sirin as neologisms, just plain adaptaions. Sistaina may be good, but it may have bad connotations with sistina "ulcerated" (QL:86).

A flashback from 2014 (FB): «But research showed that Tolkien had invented at least a Gnomish word for potato: 'grothorf' PE11:42. Can it be adapted as e.g. *hrótorva [=underground apple]?»

Tamas Ferencz Jan 12, 2018 (13:05)

+Ицхак Пензев then that's a rather philosophical question (or a question of policy if you want): do we prefer/give priority to simple phonetic adaptations from Gnomish/EQ, or re-formulating the words using later attested morphemes?

Ицхак Пензев Jan 12, 2018 (13:36)

Cemorvar is already picked up at the Discord server, thus the question is of mere theoretical interest. I keep on gathering neologisms from the FB group, too.
