Hello i am Azog , i speak Orcish

Tamas Ferencz Feb 08, 2017 (09:17)

Hello and welcome! Orcish is not something I have studied personally. What sources do you use for your learning?

Chris Blackford Feb 08, 2017 (09:21)

I assume you go with the Morian dialect? I've been trying to pick things up here and there and when I read about the dialects some inconsistencies made sense.

Here's some Orcish/Khuzdul stuff. Although I do have one note. Somewhere on the page some one suggests Yazneg saying "Khozdayin harish huru nar!" Which would be "The Dwarves are heading to the east", but as we're never given a frame of reference in terms of direction, it seems a bit of a stretch. I think "huru" should be "ulu" Which would change the translation to "The Dwarves are over there!" And make more sense.

This link is clutch, I believe. It goes into more detail about Orcish grammar and etymology, connecting it to Orc culture (or rather, lack of culture), and it has a really great glossary of words too.

+Chris Blackford well, yes, that's David Salo's page who worked on the LotR and Hobbit movies (you probably know this very well:)

+Azog The Defiler the pale orc what are you sorry for? It is absolutely fine to discuss Orcish in the community.

Chris Blackford Feb 08, 2017 (18:41)

+Tamas Ferencz I highly suspected, but I wasn't sure if it was his page, or if someone had copied info from another blog or site. I knew it was the linguist who worked on the films (although, I'm ashamed to admit I didn't know his name until now), but now I know it is all his handiwork, thanks!
